STRUCTURES is a series of five digital animations of architectural studies created using a moiré patterning technique. Each artwork features a composition of geometric shapes floating in space. Using kinetic effects and a set of minimal forms, each animation in STRUCTURES is evocative of mystical or spiritual architectures.
This series is informed by over a decade of research driven by producing architectural studies. These digital forms are always in a transitory state, between reality and fiction, virtual and physical, utopia and dystopia. The works in the series appropriate specific architectural forms that evoke imaginary and fantastical narratives. The architectures from STRUCTURES are never meant to be built, they exist on their own plane as liminal forms.
In past displays of similar works, animations have been projected at a large scale for art exhibitions and electronic music events, adding a layer of imaginary architecture to the architecture in context. The works can be read as an experiment on the possible uses of digital architectures as spaces for dreaming imaginary narratives and fleeting mythologies.
